6 Year Old Not Able to Make An 8′ Basket

My 6 year old wants to play basketball but is extremely discouraged because he’s the only one on his team who can’t seem to get the ball over the 8′ rim.

He’s definitely one of the skinnier kids but somewhere in the middle of the pack in terms of total size. Several kids on his team are much smaller and have no problem getting not only above the rim up close but shooting from 10 to 12′ out with no real problem.

It looks like some kind of issue with his basketball shooting technique. In most other regards, he is very coordinated but can’t seem to get get all of the muscles working at the same time to get the basketball in the air.

Anyone deal with this before? Any basketball shooting drills that I can do with him?
