Are there rules for keeping score in basketball?

I am a parent of a new youth girl basketball player, and I was asked to run the scoreboard. I did OK, but I do not understand all the rules of scoreboard keeping.

Is there a place to find this info?

Just watch the referee and when his arm goes down, start the clock.

I’m not sure if there are specific basketball scoreboard rules. There are so many different types of scoreboards, and they all operate a little differently.

The main components are score, time, fouls, possession and quarter – pretty simple and straight forward.

I would check with your basketball coach or league director for specific directions.
