Simple Youth Basketball Play 10 is called “1-4 High”. This is a great play that opens the lane up for drives and easy scoring opportunities.

This play is very simple to teach and learn. It utilizes multiple cuts, a hand-off option and a back-door cut. When executed properly, it’s very difficult to defend!

  • 1 = Point Guard
  • 2 = Wing
  • 3 = Wing
  • 4 = Post
  • 5 = Post
  • Black Dotted Arrow = Pass
  • Black Straight Arrow = Player Movement

  • The players start in a 1-4 high formation.
  • To start the offense, 1 can pass to either 4 or 5 in the high post.
  • 1 will pass to 5 for this play.
  • After passing to 5, 1 will cut toward the basket looking for a hand off from 5.
  • If 1 is open, 5 should hand the ball to them.
  • As 1 is cutting, 2 should also make a back-cut to the basket looking for a pass from 5.
  • If 5 does not hand the ball to 1, they should pivot toward the basket and look for 2 on their back-cut.
  • If 2 is open, 5 should make the pass to them.

  • As this action is happening, 3 should go to the top of the key to defend against a fast break.
  • If 1 or 2 did not get the pass from 5, they should rotate out to the wing positions.
  • From here, you can run an isolation for 5, a two-man play for 2 and 5, or reset the offense.
