color by: Anonymous What i do is get colored wrist bands,2 of each color. I tell them to guard the man that has the same color band as them. It works,heck it’s how i learned,so try it out.

At 4 and 5 years old, honestly, I don’t know if there’s a need to teach the players how to play man defense.
Their basketball experience at this age should be about fun games, drills and contests. Not man-to-man defense.
If you want to introduce the “concept” of defense or maybe the defensive stance, that would be fine. Just keep it simple and make it fun and I think you’ll be fine.
